Gundam Unicorn EP01

Gundam is just like a Jane Austen novel because you will always know what will happen, but you know what you will bloody watch it and will find some way to enjoy it. IIRC Gundam 00 movie was canceled because of the writer getting sick/passing away and that left the gundam fan boys with a severe need of a gundam fix and I feel Gundam Unicorn delivered.

The Rundown: The art work is a quick reminder of the 80's gundam art style but you know what, gundam girls are hot so I don't care. Okay, about the story. The story is pretty much the standard gundam intro. Poor emo guy witnessed an earlier war and is pretty angst over fighting, but still ends up piloting a gundam anyways.

Father Time (see above) I take it is in charge of some super secret organization and has found/made? an item that could save/destroy the world. A group of spacenoids are going to acquire the item and are told if their goals aren't pure enough the item won't do a damn thing.

Meanwhile the main hero finds a girl who just happens to be a princess or something along those lines. Banangher ( I already forgot his name) is hopelessly obsessed with this girl and helps her as much as he can, but when she finally gets to her destination the princess cuts him lose and he becomes incredibly emo.

While Banangher is leaving and being sad, the colony is attacked by the Federation. The Federation's objective isn't too clear in episode 01, but they are aware of the secret organization and apparently some backstabbing happens. All three sides are mingled into this battle (Federation, Spacers, Secret Organization)

Banangher ends up stumbling into a room that houses the Gundam "Unicorn" He discovers his father, who is bleeding to death, is inside of the cockpit. His father leaves him the gundam and Banangher powered by anime fuel goes out to rid all of the enemies in the space station and after a quick battle the episode ends.

Final Opinions: I got caught up in the pace and was faintly reminded of 08MS Team (my favorite gundam series) The series will probably still be pretty much like every other gundam series, but the ride can sometimes be worth it.
